Break Your Stride to Eliminate Lung Cancer

Hey “WTF-ers!” Here are some upcoming walk/runs you can participate in – or maybe you have friends or family in Gainesville, Florida; Boulder, Colorado; or Cleveland, Ohio.

I’m also still in the process of notifying “WTF Mob” leaders/participants about these events, as they would be fantastic opportunities to jump-start “Mob” membership and involvement.

Help “WTF” and the Bonnie J Addario Lung Cancer Foundation reach the ultimate finish line, to Eliminate Lung Cancer. Join the BJALCF walk/run series or spread the word to interested participants who can support BJALCF. All funds raised go directly towards eradicating Lung Cancer through research, early detection, education, prevention and treatment. A reminder, all “WTF?” funds go to BJALCF.

It is great to read of all these events sponsored by BJALCF. One day, lung cancer fundraising events MUST become as prominent as all the pink ribbon Komen and Avon events that we see again and again.

The changes (increase or decrease) of lung cancer incidence corresponds to the alterations of prevalence of smoking in the population twenty to thirty years earlier, representing a latent period between tobacco exposure and the occurrence of lung cancer. A significant decrease in the incidence of lung and bronchus cancer in males in North America started in the late 1980s. Between 1990 and 1996 there was a 2.6 percent decline in incidence per year. Incidence rates of lung and bronchus cancer in females are stabilizing in the United States. Although the death rate from lung cancer in males is decreasing, it is increasing among females, and it has now exceeded the breast cancer death rate among females.
