My grandmother had a 7 day battle (YES! She was diagnosed and died 7 days later) and it was the hardest thing for her. She never smoked, never was around smokers much. I miss her everyday more and more. She was the specialist thing to me, so nice and caring to everyone. I wish I could have made her a better life but she passed too soon. I know how much she wanted to be with her son who had died of jaw cancer 5 years before. The night before she passed my uncle asked her if she wanted to go home to be with her cat who she adored and she responded, "no". I know she is at peace and I love her.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtGdLrkieXk

Here is a link to a commercial on YouTube, this airs in the Boston market. It's not the exact commercial that I am referring to; the commercial is a much shorter, edited version of this clip on YouTube. But you can see where at least two women make references to not having a choice.

Hi Carol. Thanks for your post. I haven't seen that commercial yet. Sounds
very "interesting" to say the least. I'll look online to see if I can find
it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. No, NO ONE would chose to get
cancer. A "no duh" statement to me. :):) Hugs.

This is in no way intended to minimize breast cancer and clearly the Komen foundation has done a kick ass job of getting the word out there, but I am so tired of their most recent commercial where women say "I didn't have a choice on getting breast cancer". I can't help but feel that there they are implying that some people have a "choice" about whether or not they get cancer - and I feel it's directed, intentionally or not, at smokers and/or lung cancer. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid, but I find it insulting that they would include that in their commercials. No one has a "choice" and certainly no one would "choose" to get cancer. I

My heart goes out to you Jane. Thank you so much for responding and finding
the WTF campaign. THANK YOU HUFFINGTON POST! You are so right. NO ONE
deserves lung cancer. I don't care what the circumstances are. We need to
the excuses to stop and for serious attention and funding directed toward
lung cancer research. I won't stop this campaign until this happens. Hugs to
you. Jen

My mom died of lung cancer September 2004. She was a smoker but still did not deserve to die from this awful disease. I love that I found this website (thank you Huffington Post) and that you are raising awareness of the lack of funding caused by the smoking stigma.

I worry that when the first thing someone says after stating that a loved one has lung cancer is that they didn't smoke, it minimizes the ones that did smoke and in a way just casts the stigma on the "smokers". My mom did not deserve to die, I didn't deserve to lose her months after my wedding, and my son who was born in 2007 did not deserve missing out on knowing his grandma.

That said...to all those out there with loved ones still fighting...my prayers go out to you. I hope they have the best outcome possible.
