About Jennifer

DSC 0473 300x300 About Jennifer

Jennifer doesn’t “do” status quo. She’s combining that attitude and the power of social media to make a difference. No, to make differences – BIG differences.

In October of 2009, Jennifer launched a very personal and politically incorrect campaign called “WTF” (Where’s the Funding) for Lung Cancer? to chronicle her mom’s battle with lung cancer and increase awareness and funding for the #1 cancer killer and THE least funded. No her mom didn’t smoke.

In addition to her “WTF?” campaign, Jennifer is embarking on many additional social media ventures, such as helping nonprofits build communities to create social change, diving deeper into the speaking circuit, growing her True Dirty Laundry blog and writing that book (or two).

Jennifer was most recently social media strategist at the Bonnie J Addario Lung Cancer Foundation where she provided strategy for the development and growth of its social media communities, fostered online relationships, as well as developed and executed several impactful campaigns, such as “Just Like Jill.”

Before entering the lung cancer world, Jennifer was public relations manager at Swanson Russell in Omaha, Nebraska, where she led the charge of educating and integrating social media among all agency disciplines and PR clientele.  Swanson Russell, headquartered in Lincoln, NE, is the state’s largest public relations/communications agency.

Jennifer began her career in 1997 as a TV news reporter for KMTV-Channel 3, Omaha’s CBS affiliate, while completing her master’s degree in journalism.

After three years in the news business, she  transitioned to the “other side” – public relations – where she became press secretary for then Omaha Mayor Hal Daub. In 1999, Mayor Daub’s approval rating among Omaha voters was at 32%. Nearly 2 ½ years later, her team helped catapult the Mayor’s approval rating to nearly 70%.

Following her political stint, Jennifer  jumped into agency life, where she built a PR department at Omaha’s Ervin & Smith Public Relations. Three years later, she created Swanson Russell’s PR department from zero to five full-time employees in three years and works with a variety of clients, such as: Purina Mills, Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, Sergeant’s Pet Care Products, Creighton University Medical Center, among others.

Jennifer’s specialties include: Social media/public relations strategy; crisis communications; reputation management; influencer relations; media relations, media training; and media spokesperson duties.
